Our Ground Handling Wheels are used to move large helicopters with skids on the ground. For many years we have been shipping Ground Handling Wheels for the EC135 / H135 and EC145 / EC145 T2 /H145 / BK 117 helicopters by the manufacturer Airbus Helicopters. Our wheels are attached to the runners of the helicopter together with a hydraulic system. After pumping it up, the helicopter, weighing up to 4 tons, can be moved on the Ground Handling Wheels. The Ground Handling Wheels are characterized by practical handling and are easy to install.

Our new GSE – Ground Support Equipment Products are universally applicable and fit all common skid helicopters. The ground handling wheels are practical to handle and easy to install. A hydraulic system enables the universal wheels to be mounted on the skid of the helicopter with only a few simple steps. One it is pumped up, a helicopter weighing up to 4 tons can easily be moved along the ground. Because the wheels are now near the center of gravity of the helicopter, only a moderate amount of manual force is needed to balance the helicopter. The helicopter can be moved manually over short distances, while for greater distances a drawbar is required.
We also have a universal drawbar which fits on common skid helicopters. Different coupling systems (standard, car, MIL) enable universal towing.

The Tow Bar 2100 can be used for landing gears with skids of varying widths up to 2,400 mm. The TOW Bar is fully assembled and ready to use after only twenty minutes, and all needed tools are delivered together with the TOW Bar in a sturdy wooden transport and storage box. Its foldable drawbar means that it requires only a minimum of storage space.

The Ground Handling Wheels can be installled on the helicopter´s landing gear. Each helicopter has some horizontal bolts in the skid tube near the rear crossbeam. These bolts are the interface between the helicopter and the Ground Handling Wheels. After mounting the wheels and lifting the helicopter with the integrated hydraulic system at the GHW the helicopter can be moved. Because  the axis of the GHW is now near the centre of gravity of the helicopter, only moderate manual force is needed to balance the helicoter on the wheel axle. For short distances the helicopter can be moved manually, for greater distances a corresponding Tow Bar is required.

The handling of the Ground Handling Wheels is a very ergonomic operation. The actuating lever is the multifunctional tool for several actions in nearly upright posture. The chance for misuse is minimal. After mounting the GHW at the skid tube an automatic locking system prevents inadvertant disconnection while the helicopter is moved A very powerful 10- ton hydraulic jack is instaled with an adjusted overload valve. In the highest lifting position a mechanical safety flap prevents harmful forces to the hydraulicsystem due to knocks. Two handles allow an ergonomic transport of the GHW by two persons.

Ground Handling Wheel H-145 ec-145-t2 in use on the skids of the Airbus Helicopters H-145. It is compatible for all helicopter typs like H-145-M, EC-145-t2, EC-645-T2. The picture shows the Ground Handling Wheel in a mounted and lifted state.

Since 1998 LICO GmbH has been the supplier of Ground Handling Wheels (GHW) for the helicopter EC135 ( ECD Donauwörth. The GHW for helicopter EC145 comes from a very old design for BO 105. Using this background in 2009 LICO developed a new Ground Handling Wheel for the helicopter EC145.
